‘He’s Going to be a World Champion’- Georges St-Pierre’s Coach Firas Zahabi Talks About a Potential Fight Between Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev

Tristar MMA’s Head Coach, Firas Zahabi, spoke out on his podcast platform and shared his views on Khamzat Chimaev. Chiefly, Zahabi went on to predict if ‘Borz’ Chimaev had a viable chance at welterweight championship gold against Kamaru Usman. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ comes in as one of the best P4P fighters on the planet, and he’s been utterly dominant.

Like most others, Firas Zahabi is extremely high on Khamzat Chimaev’s hype train based on his performances thus far. The Swedish-Russian fighter has captured the attention of the MMA world with his emphatic wrestling and dynamic one-punch KO power. Hence, it’s simply a matter of time before he is listed in a big-time bout that could project him to a title shot.

In fact, Chimaev was supposed to fight the number three ranked welterweight Leon Edwards on three separate occasions. However, COVID-19  played its role in canceling the bout and Chimaev has been put on the shelf. However, upon making a recovery, he’ll be back to fighting the very best on offer and could challenge Kamaru Usman.

Georges St-Pierre’s Head Coach lauded ‘Borz’ to a high degree when entertaining the idea of a fight against Usman. Moreover, he believes that regardless of who is at the top, Khamzat Chimaev will be a champion when it’s all said and done. It’s only a matter of time to see how his career shapes out from here.

“I don’t know, it’s a very tough one. I’m still, Khamzat has impressed me very much, I would love to see him do a three-rounder so we can see a lot more of him. I’ve seen him in person, he’s so tall, he looks like a freak athlete, tall, lanky, you see his explosiveness in the octagon, you see how hard he hits. He’s a tremendous contender. Sooner or later, he’s going to be world champion. Will it be against Usman? I don’t know.”

Many in the MMA community feel similarly about Khamzat Chimaev to the famed MMA coach in Zahabi. Despite the fact that he’s not yet faced a ranked welterweight, he’s still looked at as one of the very best the sport has to offer. His next booking will go a long way in certifying whether the hype behind him is justified.
