‘I Just Wanted to Hit Him’- Kris Moutinho Reflects on His Impressive UFC Debut Against Sean O’Malley

Sean O’Malley was set to face Louis Smolka at the UFC event on July 10, 2021. However, Smolka had to withdraw from the event just weeks before the fight. Therefore, the UFC had to search for a replacement fighter to face O’Malley at the UFC 264 event. They eventually decided on Kris Moutinho as O’Malley’s opponent for the fight.

Moutinho, who previously fought in the Cage Fury Fighting Championships, made his UFC debut against ‘Sugar’. Although the fighter eventually lost the fight via a third round TKO. Moutinho impressed everyone with his gutsy performance inside the Octagon.

During a recent interview, Moutinho talked about the fight and his performance. He said, “He is a very talented fighter; he has good timing but a lot of it was my fault. I wasn’t setting up my strikes; I was feinting; I wasn’t doing anything. I was kind of just barb rolling; you know what I mean.”

“I turned it into a hockey fight. I was just trying to swing bro. It was what I felt in my head. I just wanted to go, man, I just wanted to hit him. But I have to set up my strikes, get into my range, where I can land the strikes. As the fight was going, you could tell one of us tired one of one wasn’t, It wasn’t the kid getting punched a lot.”

Moutinho clearly believes that ‘Sugar’ is a really talented fighter. However, the fighter also said that he lost the fight because of his poor decisions and tactics.

What’s next for Kris Moutinho and Sean O’Malley?

With his incredible performance against Sean O’Malley, Moutinho has proven that he has the heart to compete against the top UFC fighters. However, the fighter himself claimed that he needs to work on some issues and will do so in the near future.

Sean O’Malley, on the other side, has now won his 14th professional MMA fight, winning 10 of them via KO/TKO. The fighter will now look to challenge some top-ranked UFC fighters and make his way towards the UFC title.
