‘I’m Down, He’s Not’- Dustin Poirier Says Nate Diaz Has Rejected a Fight Against Him

Dustin Poirier is one of the toughest fighters the UFC has ever signed. His moniker, ‘The Diamond’, definitely does justice for his character. Poirier has been a part of the UFC for over ten years and has put on some epic fights throughout his professional career.

As of December 2021, Poirier’s fight record stands at 28 wins and 7 losses. Poirier has beat some of the best fighters in the promotion, including Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Max Holloway. The fighter is also a former interim UFC Lightweight Champion.

His most recent fight was against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269. Even though Poirier dominated the Brazilian throughout the first round, Oliveira got the better of him in round two. Poirier lost the fight via submission.

Since his loss, fans have been questioning Poirier’s next move. There were rumors going around that the Louisiana fighter will face Nate Diaz next. However, according to Poirier, Diaz has been ducking him.

This is the expectation of seeing Poirier take on Nate Diaz has let the second time fans down. Both fighters are absolute fan favorites. They slated Diaz to face Poirier back in 2018, at UFC 230. However, unfortunately, Dustin Poirier had to pull out of the fight because of an injury.

Diaz is currently in the last fight of his UFC contract and may not continue in the UFC after his next fight. If Diaz takes on Dustin Poirier, fans can surely expect the bout to be a nail-biter, owing to both fighters.

What’s next for Dustin Poirier

After his loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 269, Poirier’s rank has fallen down to second in the UFC’s lightweight rankings.

A likely opponent for The Diamond’s next bout is the former title contender, Michael Chandler. Both Chandler and Poirier are coming off losses to title fights against Charles Oliveira.
