‘It’s a Lot of Pressure’ – Derrick Lewis Says He Doesn’t Want to Fight Francis Ngannou in His Hometown

Derrick Lewis is all set to face Ciryl Gane at the UFC 265 main event. This fight is for the UFC interim Heavyweight championship, therefore, both fighters are training really hard for the fight. This fight is taking place at the Toyota Center, in Houston, Texas, which is the hometown of Derrick Lewis.
The victor of this fight between Gane and Lewis will face Francis Ngannou for the undisputed heavyweight title. Therefore, during a recent interview, Lewis was asked whether he would like to face Ngannou in his hometown. To this, ‘The Black Beast’ had a very surprising reply, as he said he did not want to compete in Houston against Ngannou.

“No, I would like to go to Cameroon and fight Ngannou. I don’t want to fight in my hometown, especially the main event again in my hometown.” Lewis continued, “I thought it would be cool but nah, it’s a lot of pressure. I would like to go somewhere else and fight for the title and whatever again.”
Lewis talked about how fighting in his hometown was a lot of pressure and if he gets the choice, he would not want to fight for the title there. Instead, the fighter is willing to travel to Ngannou’s home country and fight there. While fighting for the title in front of the people from their hometown is a dream for many fighters.
Lewis clearly believes that although it is great, it adds a lot of pressure.

However, Gane has never faced someone like Derrick Lewis in his MMA career. Lewis is known for his tremendous striking prowess and has the (joint) record for most wins by KO in UFC history.
