Very few people will deny that the audience is getting drawn toward TV shows more than movies. With various OTT platforms, it has become easier for them to access these shows and watch them whenever they find it convenient. UFC color commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan explained why reality TV shows are becoming more popular every day.
Comedian Pauly Shore was the guest on the #1981 episode of the million-dollar JRE podcast. Shore mentioned the trajectory of the entertainment industry, from people watching movies to TV shows, and then to reality shows. Rogan provided an explanation as to why that shift took place. JRE host mentions how sitcoms were the biggest thing about TV back in the day
Joe Rogan claims that the main reason behind the demise of sitcoms, which were very popular from the 1960s to the early 2000s, was the birth of reality shows. He also mentioned that landing a role in sitcoms was one of the biggest motives for most actors during the 90s.
Rogan said, “The sitcom was our holy grail… When my generation came to Hollywood, everybody wanted a sitcom.” The 55-year-old added, “It was like, ‘Holy sh*t! You’ve got a show. Like that was it. That’s what everybody wanted.”
