The 55-year-old UFC commentator Joe Rogan has always been honest about his opinion on the MMA world. Through his commentary, Rogan has always proved that he knows every single technical detail of MMA. However, the world mainly knows Rogan‘s love for sports through his podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience‘. In the show, the commentator never forgets to talk about the UFC. Being an athlete when he was young, the podcaster is always passionate when he talks about the dedication and hard work each fighter puts in for their octagon success.

The fans love to hear his opinions on a variety of subjects, however; he makes sure that his guests also get to talk a lot about their areas of interest. In the #1950 episode of JRE, Rogan had the 10-year veteran of the NFL, Derek Wolfe. The 33-year-old, being a Super Bowl 50 champion, the two covered a large area related to the NFL.

As the conversation progressed, Rogan and Wolfe went on to talk about fighting with “bare knuckles“. That’s when Rogan revealed something unexpected. The JRE host suggested that the fighters not use gloves while fighting their opponent.

Fighters wearing gloves is “weird” for Joe Rogan

While talking with Wolfe about bare-knuckle fights, Rogan said, My thought was like that’s how MMA should be. MMA really shouldn’t have gloves on.. because you’re really having it, you have a false sense of confidence, what you could do with your fists because this is not really designed for punching things. It’s designed for grabbing things.

The 55-year-old further detailed how gloves shield the fighters “Elbows are way better for striking and knees and kicks are way better for striking but your hands break so easy but when you wrap them up in gloves and then put a foam pad over, then you could throw your hand up. It’s weird because it’s the only thing in your whole weapons arsenal that you’re allowed to cover up with padding and make more effective.”

Why do fighters need gloves to fight?

If the fighters do not use gloves, the bout gets rawer; however, this can pave the way for numerous injuries. If the fighters used no gloves, they might suffer more facial lacerations. This can lead to the stoppage of fights in the middle due to deep cuts.

Furthermore, one of the major advantages of fighters using gloves is that it helps them easily punch their opponent without getting badly hurt. These heavy blows with the hands can also make fights far more interesting for fans.
