Masvidal last competed in the UFC back in April 2021. ‘Gamebred’ faced Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight championship and lost via a 2nd round KO. Apart from fighting, Masvidal has also been a part of various business ventures.

In April this year, the fighter also announced the launch of his bare-knuckle MMA promotion ‘Gamebred Fighting Championship’. During a recent interview, the fighter was asked about why he opened this promotion and what was the idea behind it.

Masvidal said, “I get a lot of exposure myself, so we came up with the idea. We just wanted to give that exposure to the fighters back in a massive way. My street fights, my YouTube fights I have fans forever from these fights. People will forever remember them. They see me in the street and they are like oh my gosh, it’s you from those bare-knuckle days. They don’t know anything about UFC or boxing, just these fights.”

“When we were coming up with the idea, man, we gotta give back to these fighters as well. There’s like a more even primitive bond that gets made when you see somebody going bare-knuckle at it. So that was the first thought and obviously put on the most violent fights possible on earth.”

What next for Jorge Masvidal?

Masvidal was in dominant form in 2019 and won three consecutive fights via KO/TKO. Following his impressive performance, ‘Gamebred’ was allotted a title shot against Kamaru Usman. Masvidal faced Usman at UFC 251 and lost the fight via a unanimous decision.

Following that fight, Masvidal faced Usman again at UFC 261. ‘Gamebred’ even lost the rematch via a 2nd round TKO. Now, as the fighter has suffered too consecutive, many fans have been speculating about his future in the UFC.
