Paulo Costa is finally back in the limelight with his first interview since his devastating loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 253. Costa believes this loss results from some poor decisions he’d taken a day before his first title bout.

In the fight’s aftermath, Paulo Costa took to his YouTube channel and mentioned the fact that he had no option but to drink some wine a day before the fight, as he could not sleep.

However, in his most recent interview with ESPN, Paulo Costa clarified that perhaps his biggest mistake was to have a hard training session a day before the fight. He did so as he’d have an extra night for recovery thanks to the time difference in Abu Dhabi.

“My weight cut was very hard, but it’s always hard,” Costa told ESPN. “The problem is that in Abu Dhabi, the fight happens in the morning, not at night. So, you get one night more [of recovery]. And what happened is, after my weight cut, I had recovered very well. But then I trained so hard. I was so confident, that I trained hard. I trained more than is recommended after a weight cut. And I think this made a lot of problems in my body.”

‘The Eraser’ also talked of consuming a supplement that was supposed to ease his cramps. Instead, it made him even more alert. As a result, he had no option but to consume a glass of wine before he finally went to bed.

Nevertheless, Paulo Costa believes it is time to move on and work his way back to another title shot. A fight with Marvin Vettori is what’s next for the Brazilian.

Both fighters are coming off losses and will look to make a statement in their comeback fight. A win for anyone, in this case, would mean a title shot or at least a title contender fight.

An intriguing matchup, it will be interesting to see how Paulo Costa deals with Marvin Vettori’s wrestling prowess. The same goes for Vettori, who will have to risk walking into one of Costa’s concussive blows in order to get him down to the canvas.
