Song Yadong competed in his final fight of 2023 against Chris Gutierrez. They battled each other in the main event of UFC Vegas 83. But it was the Chinese star who came out on top with a unanimous decision victory, controlling the majority of the fight in a great main event fight. He then called out a former champion, whose response prompted fans to share their reactions.

Song Yadong and Chris Gutierrez are both coming out of a win in their last fights. While the former is yet to lose a fight this year, the latter has one loss in 2023. Both were looking to seal the year with a win but it was Yadong who closed the year with a win.

Song Yadong registers a unanimous decision victory at UFC Vegas 83

Song Yadong and Chris Gutierrez started their UFC Vegas 83 main event fight after touching gloves. Both of them started with strikes, some of them connected while some of them didn’t. Yadong tried to land a spinning back fist but missed it. The first round saw both fighters land some great strikes with their legs and their hands, but that did not make much of an impact.

The ‘Kung Fu Kid’ started the second round strong with some strong leg kicks, which was reciprocated by ‘El Guapo’ with a front kick to the face of the Chinese fighter. Song Yadong raised the tempo as referee Herb Dean briefly stopped the fight as he got poked in the eye accidentally by Chris Gutierrez. But the 7th-ranked bantamweight continued to fight. He then scored a nice takedown as ‘El Guapo’ got another warning from Herb Dean for putting his fingers inside Yadong’s gloves.

The third round saw yet another accidental eye poke. However, it was Song Yadong this time, as Gutierrez took a few seconds to clear his vision. Thereafter, ‘El Guapo’ tried to go for a takedown, but the Chinese fighter did not give him a chance. Meanwhile, the round ended with yet another takedown from Song Yadong.

The ‘Kung Fu Kid’ started putting pressure on Chris Gutierrez by rattling him with rights and lefts and ultimately taking him down one more time in the fourth round. The fifth round started with Gutierrez dropping to the ground, with Yadong on top of him in a much more dominant position. With 10 seconds left for the final round, Yadong unloaded as much as he could as the fight came to an end as he won the fight via unanimous decision. Yadong then proceeded to call out Petr Yan to which fans reacted.

Song Yadong did not have any doubt in his ability to defeat Chris Gutierrez. He apologized to the fans for not being able to knock him out but then proceeded to call out former bantamweight champion Petr Yan. The Russian fighter immediately shared his response with a yawning emoji on Twitter (X). Let’s see what the fans had to say about that.

One fan reminded Petr Yan that should not be yawning at that challenge since he is on a losing streak.

Another fan claimed that ‘No Mercy’ could struggle against Chris Gutierrez too.

But one use on Twitter (X) came in support of the former champion.

But fans constantly kept reminding Yan that he failed to register a win in 2022 and 2023.

They believe it should have been Petr Yan fighting against Song Yadong at UFC Vegas 83.

They urged him to fight the ‘Kung Fu Kid’ or retire from the sport of MMA.
