Under the bright lights of the T-Mobile Arena, Alex Pereira once again showed why he’s the UFC’s most electrifying force. Coming in as the underdog against Russian powerhouse Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320, the Brazilian warrior didn’t just reclaim his light heavyweight crown — he reclaimed his legacy. With precision and fury, the Brazilian  avenged his previous defeat and stamped his name as a two-time light heavyweight champion.

This time, though, Alex Pereira looked sharper, hungrier, and completely unshakable. Even after admitting earlier that he wasn’t feeling “100%,” he walked into the Octagon like a man on a mission. And by the time the dust settled, he had rewritten Dagestan’s chapter in UFC history, restoring the belt in thunderous fashion. Now, with the gold back around his waist, all eyes immediately turned to what comes next. Meanwhile, Pereira has already set his sights on a monumental stage, expressing his desire to fight at the UFC White House on the 4th of July next year.

Alex Pereira wants to face Jon Jones in a “super-fight” at UFC’s White House show

Dana White & Co. haven’t decided on his next opponent yet, but one name keeps echoing through the fight world — Jon Jones. The former heavyweight king and Pereira have long circled each other, teasing a clash of titans that feels inevitable. For now, though, Dana White still refuses to give the matchup the green light. At the UFC 320 post-fight press conference, Pereira didn’t hesitate to bring up Jones. But since Jones is mourning the recent loss of his brother, Alex Pereira spoke with empathy rather than ambition, saying, “I will answer this question just one time. With all due respect to the situation, I was going to ask about Jon Jones and Dana White, but whatever happened, it’s not the right time to talk about it.”

A little later, Dana White cooled the buzz around Pereira’s potential move to heavyweight, explaining, “Probably that he was a middleweight. He was a middleweight, and he’s going to jump up two weight classes in the UFC. Um, it’s not like jumping up two weight classes in boxing.” White called Pereira’s heavyweight leap a “big jump,” and it really is — the kind that tests a fighter’s limits.

Still, Pereira didn’t flinch. In his post-fight interview with the UFC broadcast team, he once again doubled down on his dream of a “super fight” with Jones. When asked about his next move at light heavyweight, Pereira brushed off those talks with a single word — “heavyweight.” And finally, with the confidence of a man writing his own myth, he set his sights even higher.“No, I want a superfight. It would be at the White House against Jon Jones,” said Alex Pereira.

With Pereira declaring his heavyweight ambitions, the buzz surrounding the UFC White House card has reached a fever pitch. Meanwhile, Dana White is already in talks with stars like Conor McGregor for the same event, but he has dismissed Jon Jones’ name, citing his “unreliable” personality. Slotting Pereira into the mix after UFC 320 only adds another layer of complexity to the UFC CEO’s already delicate chessboard.

Is Alex Pereira truly a heavyweight?

Although Alex Pereira made his UFC debut at middleweight, the punishing weight cuts took a heavy toll on his body, impacting his performance at 185 lbs. That strain prompted him to move up to 205 lbs, a shift even witnessed by Sean Strickland, who recalled seeing Pereira after his middleweight cut and described it as looking at “fucking d-th.

Now competing in the light heavyweight division, the 38-year-old Brazilian normally walks around above 240 lbs. Yet, despite the extreme demands, Pereira has never missed weight in his career. Leading into UFC 320, he described the cut as the “best” of his career. Still, as age begins to weigh in, such drastic reductions could strain his body and its functions — a concern underscored by Ilia Topuria’s decision to move from 145 to 155 lbs after struggling with his own weight cuts.

Reflecting on the grind of his UFC 320 weight cut, Pereira admitted that sustaining 205 pounds may soon become impossible, hinting that the next chapter of his career could take him into uncharted territory. “I really don’t know. We’ll have to see,” Alex Pereira said when asked about moving up to heavyweight. “Obviously, my body gets heavier. I don’t know how long I can cut to 205. We’re just going to have to see and take it fight by fight.”

Now, with Pereira back in the win column, the spotlight turns to a new question: can he survive in the heavyweight division, or should the promotion offer the Brazilian a “one-off” shot just to face Jon Jones? Share your thoughts below.
