Despite competing at a significantly low frequency in recent years, Nate Diaz has no shortages of call-outs. Particularly after Conor McGregor lost to Dustin Poirier, Diaz’s name has gained a lot more traction among UFC lightweights. However, with Diaz hinting that he would compete at welterweight, Stephen Thompson has also dropped his name in the hat for fighting the former lightweight contender.

Wonderboy is currently on a two-fight win streak with his last win coming in December 2020 against Geoff Neal. Ranked number five in the welterweight division, Thompson has expressed a desire to fight the younger Diaz brother. ‘Wonderboy’ commented on a post from Freak MMA on Instagram which asked fans to drop potential opponents for Nate Diaz at welterweight.

“Me!! Would be a fun fight for sure! 👊🏻🙏🏻” Wonderboy commented.

This isn’t the first instance when Thompson has demanded a fight against the Diaz brothers. Last year Nick Diaz’s manager revealed that his client will ‘hundred percent’ return to the Octagon in 2021. Thompson was quick to tweet that it would be an honor to welcome the elder Diaz brother back into the ranks.

McGregor‘s loss to Poirier has led to increased demands for the trilogy between the Irishman and the fighter from Stockton, California. On top of it, several contenders who are in the title run have given their two cents over a fight with Diaz. While Poirier thinks fighting him would be good for business, Justin Gaethje had a pretty strong choice of words for Diaz. Gaethje claimed he would ‘roll Diaz up and smoke him’.

The list of fighters calling out Diaz for a fight isn’t limited to a division or among top tier fighters either. Young and upcoming welterweights such as Warlley Alves and Khamzat Chimaev have also targeted Diaz for a potential fight.

Despite the attention, Diaz has remained away from the media. He last stepped inside the Octagon when he lost to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244. Dana White, in January, provided an update that the UFC was working on a fight for Diaz at lightweight. However, if Diaz’s latest tweets are any indication, it would seem that he wants to continue fighting at 170-pounds.
