Former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic suffered a brutal knockout loss against Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 and lost his belt in the process. The consensus greatest heavyweight of all time is looking to bounce back from his loss as he revealed he plans to gain some size before returning to the Octagon.

Ngannou looks almost certain to fight Derrick Lewis in the first defense of his gold. Former three-time UFC title challenger, Chael Sonnen, believes Miocic should fight Jon ‘Bones’ Jones in the meantime. “Stipe versus Jon Jones is a massive fight right now. They could make that fight right now and Jon’s in a position where Jon’s going to need to remind people very soon Jon is going to need to remind you how good he is,” said Sonnen.

Jones has been getting ready to make his debut in the UFC’s heavyweight division. He was tipped to fight the winner of the title fight at UFC 260. However, the fight with Ngannou didn’t materialize as the UFC is not willing to match Jones’s claims in terms of payment. That has left Jones out in the cold, and fans have to wait even longer to see the former light-heavyweight champion back inside the Octagon.

I think that we need to show Jon a little bit of respect, a little bit of appreciation, which is it can be for a championship it can be against Francis. It doesn’t have to be. I think it would be very interesting if we started thinking in those regards, because that’s where all of a sudden we start opening doors to a Stipe versus Jon Jones, just by example. But there’s a lot of really good matches. I feel that maybe with Jon we’re asking the wrong questions,” said Sonnen.

Is Stipe Miocic vs Jon Jones the fight to make?

Miocic vs Jones has an in-built storyline in it. Miocic is considered the greatest heavyweight of all time. Jones, on the other hand, is the GOAT of the UFC. So, it’s understandable why fans want to see them throw down inside the Octagon. Also, stylistically, the fight promises to be intriguing.

But given the dispute between the promotion and Jones, it is unlikely we will see this fight materialize soon. Fans will keep a close eye on what’s next for both the former champions.
