Just a few weeks after the fight, ‘Gamebred’ allegedly attacked ‘Chaos’ outside a Miami Beach restaurant. Covington included Masvidal’s family in his trash talk before the fight. This didn’t sit well with the Floridian. Hence, Masvidal took this step.
Pointing at this incident, Ali Abdelaziz took a jibe at the former welterweight interim champion. “He said he is retired from the Punch he took and medically unfit to fight. Technically, his Rolex survived, but he didn’t.” He wrote on Twitter.

Abdelaziz’s tweet came after Covington was offered a fight from his other rival, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier.

The former lightweight interim champion Poirier and Covington have been exchanging verbal jabs ever since the latter left American Top Team. There is bitter animosity between the two. However, they have never fought inside the cage.
Previously, ‘The Diamond’ wasn’t interested in fighting Covington. However, with his latest tweet, it seems that the Louisiana native is ready to settle his beef with ‘Chaos’ inside the UFC octagon. “@ColbyCovMMA July 30th I accept,” Poirier wrote on Twitter.
Will UFC make Dustin Poirier vs. Colby Covington?
Definitely, the UFC should make this fight happen from a business perspective. The major selling element in the fight is the rivalry between both the combatants.

Also, Covington has expressed his desire to fight Poirier several times. Hence, it is likely that he will accept the offer. Moreover, it will be a huge step up for the Miami native to map his way back to the 170lbs title if he wins.

Who is Maritza Masvidal – Infamously Mentioned by Colby Covington as Jorge Masvidal’s Wife?
Another reason to make this fight happen is Poirier’s interest in moving up to the welterweight division. Also, as the lightweight division’s current scenario looks jammed, Covington seems a viable opponent for the Louisiana native.
Furthermore, Covington and Poirier are currently some of the finest fighters in the promotion. Hence, this match-up will serve as a delightful treat for the fans. However, we will have to wait for the final call from the UFC matchmakers.
