‘D-Rod’ was coming into the contest with a four-fight win streak with a close split decision win versus Chinese fighter Li Jingliang. Since his last fight was a highly controversial decision, the 170 lb fighter wanted to prove he stood toe-to-toe among the elites of the division.

On the other hand, Neil Magny has already proved himself in the welterweight division as he stacked as many wins as UFC’s greatest welterweight fighter of all time Georges St-Pierre.

Both fighters found success in the first round. ‘D-Rod’ went to the body, whereas Magny put on the pressure and touched his counterpart with a few good shots.

Magny bloodied the face of the Syndicate MMA athlete and took him down after showing his prowess in the clinch. The 35-year-old California-born fighter had a late flurry at the end of the round.

Round two saw some excellent combinations from both fighters as well. ‘D-Rod’ looked to keep the momentum he found at the end round. Besides, Magny was not able to take the fight to the ground in the second round. And while he was landing shots, his counterpart kept the relentless pressure.

The veteran showed up in the third round after his corner pushed him to go forward and broke GSP’s record for the most wins in the division’s history.
