Many MMA fighters have tried their hands at boxing. This includes names like Tyron Woodley, Conor McGregor, and Anderson Silva. Meanwhile, fighters like Francis Ngannou and Stipe Miocic have expressed their wish to try out boxing. So it has become common to see MMA fighters in the boxing ring. However, seeing boxing fighters try their hands at mixed martial arts is rather uncommon.

One exception is Claressa Shields, who entered MMA as a boxer and currently has a 1-1 record. But apart from Shields, there aren’t many who have transitioned to MMA.

‘The Schmo’ and Henry Cejudo discussed this matter, and the latter gave his opinions on why boxers generally don’t enter MMA. Cejudo said, “They don’t have the skill set. … It’s different man but being a pure boxer, going into wrestle, even Claressa, look how terrible she looked in the cage. Terrible! And they were trying to feed her somebody that she was supposed to beat. She was supposed to beat.”

Cejudo further stated, “It’s just different, Schmo. These dudes won’t last a minute in that cage with ‘Triple C’.”

James Toney, Holly Holm, and Ricardo Mayorga are some boxers that entered the world of MMA as boxing fighters. Holly Holm managed to not only have a great boxing career, but when she defeated MMA star Ronda Rousey, her name exploded.

Henry Cejudo: His MMA career

Cejudo started his professional MMA career in 2013 and won back to back the first ten bouts of his career. In 2014, he signed up with the UFC and after just five UFC fights, he fought for the title. However, he lost the title fight against Demetrious Johnson. In 2018, he once again fought Johnson for the title and won.

The fighter went on to become the champion of two divisions: flyweight and bantamweight. He showed the qualities of a well-rounded fighter and this helped him occupy both the titles. He retired in 2020 after his last fight against Dominick Cruz. Fans would like to see him in the octagon again if he does come back.

Cejudo has also been an Olympic gold medalist. Back in 2008, he won gold for freestyle wrestling in the 55 kg division.
