Ronda Rousey was the face of the UFC and a massive PPV star in her heydays. Referred to as ‘Rowdy’, she had a reputation for taking her opponents down for good. She retired with an MMA record of 12-2-0, which was still an impressive credit. However, it was those two losses, which were back to back, that broke her winning streak, as well as her will to continue in MMA.

Rousey retired in 2016, and two years later, in 2018, they honored her as the first woman inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. But ever since, her reputation as a fighter has deteriorated. Recently, a video from her early years before she joined the UFC was released. In response to the video, the fans ridiculed her for having only “one trick” as a fighter and for having subpar boxing skills.

Turning to WWE didn’t help matters any well either, as she suffered her fair share of criticism at WWE as well.

Fans condemn Ronda Rousey over an old clip

The clip showcased Ronda Rousey in her early MMA matches and she can be seen taking her opponents down, majorly via arm bar. And that’s what infuriated many, who began condemning her for having just “one move” in her arsenal. They chastised her for changing her style to boxing, which the fans believe is equally bad.

Many fans believe she may have fared better in the UFC had she not altered her fighting style and continued honing her skills there instead of leaving for WWE following her defeats.

Let’s take a look at some of the fan reactions to this clip of Ronda Rousey:

Many fans criticized her for having poor boxing skills:

“Unfortunately someone convinced her she was a boxer”

“This the same person that said she could take Mayweather in a boxing match????

“Then she went to Amanda Nunes boxing camp, game over.”

“One trick wonder. Didn’t last long at all. Her boxing sucked at best”

Other section of fans criticized her for not having any “actually good skills” and not being able to handle her defeats well:

“Couldn’t handle it when she lost so I lost all respect for her”

“She was excellent at her craft. She really should of stuck to it! Trying to change her style so soon ruined her.”

“And this is why Holly got the k.o. against her.. I never really seen any actually good skills besides her jujitsu and her arm bar tactics..but I guess a wins a win right?”

“Until she realised she can’t handle losing, then turns into the exact thing she used to criticise other people doing”

In her heyday, Rousey did earn the reputation of being one of the toughest fighters in the UFC, but it didn’t stick around for very long.

Why did Rousey quit MMA?

In her recent interview with Daniel CormierRonda Rousey disclosed the reason that pushed her to end her MMA career. When Cormier asked her if it was a tough decision, Rousey replied, “I think it was difficult in both Judo and MMA. And that everyone else felt that they wanted more from me.”

She further elaborated on what caused her to take that step. “I medalled at 21. So, I was gonna be 25 for the next Olympics. Everyone was like, ‘oh this is it. You’re gonna be the first to win Olympic Gold.’ And I didn’t want it anymore, you know. And I couldn’t do it for everybody else. And I think that’s a mistake that I made with MMA; was when I got to that point where I didn’t want it anymore. I kept doing it for everybody else.”

On the other side, her UFC Fight episode of Fightlore, “Fightlore: Bronze to Gold, The Reinvention of Ronda Rousey,” which details her ascent, has just been released. Do check that out, too.
