Leon Edwards recently secured his 9th victory in 10 fights when he defeated Nate Diaz at the UFC 263 event. This victory will have meant a lot to ‘Rocky’ as it could mean a potential title shot for the fighter. However, even though Edwards won the fight, many people have criticized the fighter’s inability to finish the fight.

Recently welterweight fighter Gilbert Burns also shared his views of Edwards’s fight with Diaz. Durinho said, “I think Leon Edwards lost the shot just because he didn’t get a finish. He wasn’t hungry. Not even criticizing the guy.”

“I think he fought very good. He’s a very smart fighter. But he’s not a finisher. If you go all day and sometimes just, as they say, bite the mouthpiece, and go forward, and finish the fight, sometimes you’re gonna get the shot.” Burns added. (H/T MMA News)

These remarks from Burns resonate with what many fans have also been saying. Many believe that Edward’s inability to finish a returning Nate Diaz proves that he isn’t ready for a title shot. Apart from that, the fact that Edwards was in big trouble in the last round as Diaz rocked him badly added to that belief.

However, Edwards did not take the remarks by Burns quietly as ‘Rocky’ responded to him on Twitter. Edwards wrote, “You got knocked out with a jab.”

Burns lost his last UFC fight against Kamaru Usman after being TKO’d in the 3rd round and ‘Rocky’ reminded him of the same.

Like Gilbert Burns, many believe that Edwards lost his title shot because he couldn’t finish Diaz. This proved true as Dana White has made it perfectly clear that Colby Covington will change for the title next.

Therefore, it leaves ‘Rocky’ in a tricky situation. There has been much speculation as to who Edwards will face next now that it’s confirmed he won’t fight for the title anytime soon. People have put forward many names as potential opponents for ‘Rocky.’ However, the one that seems most plausible is Jorge Masvidal as even White said that is a fight that can be made anytime.
