Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Real Reason for Not Joining the UFC

UFC is the biggest promotion in the combat sports world and attracts many top fighters who want to become a part of it. The UFC boasts an elite roster with the world’s best fighters in every division. In fact, WWE icon and Hollywood star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently joined the conversation of joining UFC.

‘The Rock’ has a large fan following because of his incredible persona in and out of the fight business. He is one of the greatest WWE celebrities of all time. Fans would love to see Johnson come into the UFC and test his skills against the best.

Recently, ‘The Rock’ revealed what would have happened if he was in the UFC. Surely, it would have been exciting to see how ‘The People’s Champ’ fared in MMA. However, he has shut down the talks in a recent statement.

When asked what could’ve happened if he competed in the UFC, Johnson said, “I would have gotten my face smashed in and I like my jaw where it’s at. 

The 49-year-old star signed a multi-year business agreement with the UFC a day before UFC 270. He announced the agreement via a tweet. He also shared his thoughts on the deal in an official announcement.

“UFC athletes are amongst the greatest, toughest, focused, most disciplined, and hardest training athletes on the planet.”

“Every walk to the iconic Octagon by a UFC fighter is fueled with passion, mana, and the deep desire to establish their dominance and legacy.”

Previously, WWE legend Brock Lesnar stepped inside the UFC Octagon and established his dominance there. During his time at the UFC, he became the UFC heavyweight champion and retired after losing the title to Cain Velasquez.

What is the UFC – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson deal?

The new sponsorship agreement between UFC and ‘The Rock’ is a new global partnership deal. It is between UFC and Project Rock (A collection featuring The Rock and Under Armour).

It will make Project Rock the official footwear sponsor of the UFC. As a result, fans will see both male and female fighters don the Project Rock footwear on every official occasion. This includes fight week events, weigh-ins, ring walks, and training.

This comes after UFC’s previous contact with Reebok expired. Subsequently, the biggest MMA promotion chose Project Rock as the replacement.

The Rock talked about the deal with UFC President Dana White. He said, “Being ‘the hardest worker in the room’ isn’t just a catchy slogan. It’s my life. But it’s not just my life. It’s the life and soul of every man and woman that competes in the UFC. They are the hardest workers in the room.”

This news had come out a day before the much-anticipated title fight between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane at UFC 270.
