“You never know if you’ll have to be ready sooner than you expected.”- this is the point Ronda Rousey tried to make in the chapter titled ‘I was Born Ready’ in her memoir ‘My Fight/Your Fight.’ While she won Olympic medals, Strikeforce, and UFC titles, Ronda Rousey started fighting much before any of that. The story of the first-ever female UFC champion’s birth proves she was born to fight.
In her memoir, Rousey detailed the complications during and after her birth.

In the chapter, the former UFC champion and Olympic judoka dived into the complications during her birth, how it affected her parents and how the doctor’s words gave them hope.
Ronda Rousey on the complications after her birth
Rousey revealed in her memoir that her mother had a complicated delivery when she gave birth to her. The former champion was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. Baby Ronda was blue and listless, with a zero score on the Apgar scale. Fortunately, the doctors managed to cut the cord off and revive her.

However, that was not the end of it. Although they had managed to bring her to life, the doctors had more worrying news for Rousey’s parents.
“My parents were happy I was alive, but the doctor who saved me said that I might have brain damage and that it might not be evident right away. In fact, he told my mom it might take months or even years if the damage was in areas that control things like walking or speech since those delays aren’t apparent until you get to those developmental stages.”
The distressing news was cause for concern and startled the parents. However, what the doctor said next gave them relief and a ray of hope.
A promise of hope
Over the span of a tense couple of minutes, the doctors got Ronda Rousey out of her mother’s womb and back to life. However, the possibility of brain damage remained a cloud over a happy moment. But the doctor’s takeaway from the tense moments was a relief to the parents.

The doctor said that in most cases, Rousey would not have survived. He reassured them that the baby’s breathing, heart rate, and reflexes were where they should have been. He added, “I have no idea what the future holds, but babies are unbelievably resilient and this one is certainly a fighter.”
It seems like Rousey was a fighter right from birth and even got the doctor to certify that.
