Conor McGregor has a great love for mixed martial arts. However, he has competed just twice since becoming a 2 division world Champion in late 2016. ‘Notorious’ entered the world of boxing and earned a huge payday. Later he took another hiatus before returning at UFC 246 and vowing to compete 3 times a year to make up for lost time. Now ‘Notorious’ took to Twitter in a rant aimed at fighters across the Lightweight division and he ended by charting out a plan for the future.

It means that he is satisfied with the safety arrangements at UFC 249 and is open to competing behind closed doors, most probably on Fight Island.

A July return may see ‘Notorious’ unable to fight a top Lightweight contender. Earlier he was to fight the winner of Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov. Later, Justin Gaethje emerged as a probable opponent. However, a spanner has been thrown into the works with ‘The Highlight’s stunning win at UFC 249.
Dana White said the winner of the Interim Lightweight Champion will face ‘The Eagle’ in a unification bout.
This leaves Dustin Poirier as a top Lightweight opponent for ‘Notorious.’ He may take this fight as an opportunity to prove to the world that the rankings are wrong. The duo has exchanged verbal volleys on social media in the last 24 hours.
It is clear that he wants to be done with the division. However, fans need not worry as another tweet will silence fears of ‘Notorious’ walking away from the sport yet again.

This opens up the possibility of many more fights such as the Nate Diaz trilogy or a clash with BMF Champion Jorge Masvidal. This fight had fans salivating last week before Dana White poured cold water on the idea. Also, Lightweight fighters may not take too kindly to this.
All in all, it’s set to be an exciting next few months for MMA fans as we wait to see what’s next for Conor McGregor. Who do you see him fight next?
