Sharks have fascinated and terrified humans for ages. Evolutionarily, we are hardwired to pay attention to things that can and will harm us. Besides the very cool nature of sharks, the surfing community has encountered genuine fear of being pulled underwater by one or of seeing a chunk taken out of our loved ones or our inspiring athletes. The footage revealed the presence of a great white shark swimming in proximity to world-class surfers. On 15th July 2023, Saturday, Florence took to Instagram and posted a courageous yet terrifying video. In the sight, he can be seen swimming in Jeffreys Bay, often hailed as one of the world’s premier surf breaks of South Africa, and has a reputation that extends beyond its world-class waves. This moment was captured by videographer Zoard with a witty and elaborate caption. He penned, “Some groms came in down the point and said they had seen a big great white close enough to see its eyes!

The J-bay is known for its shark-populated waters, and surfers who take on these powerful swells understand that they are entering the domain of these predators. On the same note, the dangerous encounter between Mick Fanning and a great white shark during a competition heat in 2015 still lingers in the collective memory. It further emphasizes the inherent risk faced by surfers in these waters. Furthermore, this has ignited a flurry of reactions from fans around the world.
