This season, the San Francisco Giants have been one of, if not the most dominant franchises in the MLB. They boast the best record of any franchise not just in the National League, in which they feature, but the American League as well.

With the regular season reaching its conclusion on Sunday, the Giants bettered a long-standing franchise record.

For their last three-game series in this year’s MLB regular season, the Giants took on the San Diego Padres. They won the first of these three games last Friday to tie the franchise’s record for the most wins in a single season, set by the 1904 team.

With two games left, they had the opportunity to better that record on Saturday, October 2 against the Padres. However, they suffered a narrow 2-3 defeat to their opponents, leaving them with just one chance in yesterday’s game. The Giants didn’t let this opportunity slip, scoring a massive 11-4 win over the Padres in Oracle Park.

With 107 wins, this is the most recorded by the Giants in their history spanning 138 years.

This season, the Giants are just one of three teams to garner 100 or more wins across the American League and National League. The other two teams are the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Although the Giants recorded the most wins in their history, they faced pressure from the Dodgers throughout the season. Prior to yesterday’s game, the defending World Series champions were just a game behind the Giants.

The Dodgers did their bit and won their final game against the Milwaukee Brewers, with the scoreline reading 10-3. Had the Giants lost, they would have had to play a tiebreaker game against the Dodgers to decide the winner of the National League West. However, the Giants secured this title for the first time since 2014 with their victory over the Padres.

The last time they won the NL West in 2014, they went on to win the World Series. Given the form they are in at the moment, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them emulate those heroics seven years later.
