Now that his dream lay shattered on the ice rink, what is next for Yuzuru Hanyu? Will there be a strong comeback from the legend, or will he just leave his dream unfinished? These are the question perhaps every figure skating fan is wondering about right now.

The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is a terrible memory for the Japanese. He missed his third consecutive Olympic gold and failed at his dream of performing a perfect quad axle. However, he is proud of the fact that he did his best. He said, “I honestly left everything out there. I have nothing left to give. It is what it is. This Olympics was a challenge and I gave it everything I have”.

The two-time Olympic champion is uncertain about his next step. His dream was big and so was the disappointment that came along. On the question of his next goal, he said, “I need a bit of time. I need to think it through, “I’m that empty right now”. 

Yuzuru Hanyu is a person who is constantly challenging the limits and striving for perfection in his art. His contribution to defining figure skating as a world-class sport is unmatched. Though American figure skater Nathan Chen winning the gold in Beijing could be seen as the new era for figure skating.

The Japanese skater would have to decide soon about his next move. In March, the world championships in Montpellier, France, is waiting for him and if considering the long-term events, there is the 2026 Olympics in Milano Cortina. Although he must be tired of all the efforts in Beijing, it’s time he should move on to other things.

The 27-year-old has a decision to make. The world is already proud of him for everything he has contributed over the years and he has nothing to prove to anyone. However, his dream remains unfinished and a person as proud as him would not wish it to be so.
