Addressing the main question in brief, Schwarzenegger wrote that the body doesn’t care about a time nearly as much as the mind does. Talking about the 30-minute rule, Schwarzenegger said, “…Most of the rules people ask me about were made by somebody who was selling. The 30 minute rule was almost certainly made up by companies trying to sell you something. We never really schvitzed about this, even in the old days.” Additionally, he used his past as a competitive bodybuilder to further explain his point.

In his past interviews, Arnold Schwarzenegger has opened up about his early bodybuilding days. He once revealed how he, along with a few other bodybuilders used to work out on the beach as they couldn’t find a gym. Schwarzenegger used that experience as an example to explain his point. He said, “Sometimes after training we laid out on the beach for a couple hours before eating. I don’t think people should stress about this as much as they stress about building a routine where they train every day and eat protein at every meal.”

Furthermore, he explained the scientific reason behind his belief. Schwarzenegger asserts that the anabolic window lasts longer than half an hour. Therefore, he suggests that one should eat an hour or two before the workout. As for the time limit after the workout, Schwarzenegger said that it could be anytime within 3 hours.
