Inducted into the Hall of Fame, the name Lee Labrada is almost synonymous with bodybuilding. He won the 1985 Mr. Universe and secured 4th place in Mr. Olympia for 7 years in a row. Despite being distant from on-stage bodybuilding spaces, Labrada still hits the gym regularly. In fact, at 62 years of age, the legend is confident enough to outshine any powerlifters half his age. He even shared an Instagram post in 2022, comparing his present physique with his 28-year-old physique.

While revealing the secret behind his humongous body for some time, the legend finally attributed his disciplined lifestyle to it. Moreover, he also shares his wise insights on issues related to the sport and advises building the body in a healthier way. Significantly, he is the professional trainer of Hunter Labrada, his son, and Mr. Olympia’s competitor. But the question that keeps resurfacing is how does he maintain that physique?

Starting in 1982, Labrada went pro in 1985 with his Mr. Universe trophy. In 1992, he was in his prime when he weighed 190 lbs and stood 5’6″ tall. Labrada, with years of experience informing his gym routine even today, is now pushing the bar even higher to let the amateurs be awe-inspired. In an Instagram post, Labrada shared his fitness formula. He wrote, “Bodybuilding is the closest thing we have to the fountain of youth.” He also included two pictures of him, one taken in 1988, and another in 2011. Seemingly, the former Mr. Universe was looking almost the same in both.

While spilling the beans the veteran shared that he still looks up to working out every day to keep up with his age. He also focused on a clean diet to maintain a healthy body that could endure intense workouts. Labrada advises eating a meal consisting of carbohydrates and protein 90 minutes before hitting the gym to gain muscle mass, which he has been following for years.

At 62, he advocates a healthy lifestyle and remains very active throughout the day. With extensive knowledge about the sport, Labrada helps new bodybuilders with proper guidance. In fact, he is training his son Hunter Labrada who ended up in 7th place in Mr. Olympia 2022.

Mr. Universe inspires many including his son

Labrada has been coaching his son since 2020. In fact, Hunter participated in the competitive stage of Mr. Olympia in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and achieved 8th, 4th, and 7th place, respectively. He is still preparing and is in a good shape. Along with his son, there are many who is inspired by the IFBB pro bodybuilder.

Today, Labrada is a successful fitness coach and the CEO of his company Labrada Nutrition where he helps rookies to become the best version of themselves. He is even a prominent author and a social media influencer.
