But recently, another piece of news saddened fans, but it’s the Japan Cup finisher’s retirement this time.

Panthalassa, the Japanese racehorse, had two terrific seasons, 2022 and 2023. Starting off his career by finishing 6th at the Hanshin Racecourse in 2019, he later clinched his first win at the Kyoto Racecourse on October 12. However, now, after earning accolades, it’s time to embark on a new journey.

Archie Brookes, the 20-year-old Japanese racing enthusiast announced the retirement news of the racehorse. The caption reads, PANTHALASSA has been retired He finished 12th in the Japan Cup yesterday He won 7 of his 27 starts including the Group 1 Dubai Turf & Group 1 Saudi Cup on dirt.

In his homeland, legendary horse Equinox secured the win as Christophe Lemaire set his eyes on the trophy beforehand. But Panthalassa wasn’t among the top 10. As a luxurious stallion career awaits, the six-year-old equine makes fans look back at his path-breaking Saudi Cup win.

The announcement of his Saudi Cup entry came later in 2022 when he finished 10th at the Hong Kong Cup. Little did he know that a stellar display awaited. As his first G1 race, the performance was nothing short of magical.

Upcoming Stallions Saudi Cup win

Edging out Country Grammer and Frank Dettori, the Japanese racehorse flew to victory with his rider Yutaka Yoshida. Taking the $20-million prize was an unbelievable moment for the rider. He said, “It is unbelievable. I have no words. I am very, very happy. He was in stall one, so I said it was okay to go to the front.”

He further added, “This win is higher than any other I have had –- of course it is the best feeling, because the prize money is the best, too.” It was the equine’s first dirt and turf race, and unexpectedly, the win had taken everyone in awe. Moreover, he also received the title of being the first Japanese horse to have won the Saudi Cup in history. Now, though he finished 12th, his dreams are still awake and stand a possibility to turn true.
