The thrill of equestrian sports keeps the fans glued to their seats. But some horse riding events meet harrowing ends, leaving the whole stadium shocked. At times, the riders fall victim to tragic falls, at other times, the equines topple over. While the animal rights activists had brought the horse fatalities to light, the rider accidents await a response.

Recently, a new rider faced a life-ending fall, therefore landing up in coma. This Sunday, in Taree, at the Manning Valley Race Club, jockey Lachlan Scorse met with an unfortunate fate during Race 6. Sometimes, the primary reason may be the racetrack which holds the most importance in a horse riding event. Having said that, in the regional NSW this time, a four-horse fall resulted in the injury of four riders. Among them, Lachlan Scorse had the worst fall. However, a new update has a beam of hope.

The 19-year-old Scorse fell unconscious after his horse stumbled. Almost immediately, the paramedics arrived at the spot and rushed him to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. Following the tragedy on Sunday morning, the night update left the family and friends more concerned. While he underwent scans during his treatment, he was placed in an induced coma as well. Moreover, Monday morning saw Scorse breathing into a tube, while the doctors confirmed a close 24-hour observation.

But, a recent heartwarming update of his father, Mathew Scorse, left fans a little hopeful. His son finally started to respond, which means that he came out of his induced coma. Though he still stays under observation in the ICU, he’s currently out of risk. Provincial Racing posted, “An encouraging update this afternoon from the family of injured jockey Locky Scorse. Mathew Scorse said his son had woken from his induced coma & was responding to his parents. He remains in ICU in a serious condition, with his condition improving #provracing.”

Though Scorse showed improvement, the horse-riding world lost a gem early this year. Considered a ‘family man’, an Australian event took his life.

In one of the regional Victoria state races, Holland was one of the top preferences. After his equine threw him off, he flew and fell unconscious, not realizing how intense the fall was. Just when the race started at Donald Racecourse, he fell, but the immediate arrival of the paramedics didn’t help. Unable to regain consciousness after on-spot treatment, the legendary jockey breathed his last. This incident not only left the spectators shocked, but it dumfounded the Racing Victoria CEO, as well. Andrew Jones had said, “It was a tragic accident at Donald today and we are all deeply shocked and saddened that Dean has passed away.”
