In response to the situation, SPANA (Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad) has been holding operations to rescue working animals that have hundreds of people dependent on them. “Working alongside the humanitarian effort, coordinating with the authorities and partners, SPANA’s teams are working tirelessly to ensure that lifesaving help is available to working animals,” Linda Edwards, Chief Executive of SPANA said according to Charity Today.
The charity will put in efforts to ensure that the injured and abandoned animals receive emergency medical assistance alongside food and water. “Working donkeys and mules will be their (staff) rescue partner, and Spana will be there to safeguard their welfare; they too need to recover from the trauma of this horrific disaster,” Edward said according to Horsetalk. SPANA is closely working with humanitarian efforts, coordinating with the authorities to maximize their reach and support. Further, the charity has also started an appeal to ensure essential support for the working animals in Morocco.

According to Impactful Ninja, The American Horse Council has estimated that around 100,00 pet horses have been abused and neglected while 50,000 more racehorses have been mistreated. To fight such adversities, there have been several equestrian charities around the world that have made their presence.
The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation has provided funding for research on infectious diseases and other studies. The charity’s funding of over $30 Million has been a necessary help in tracking equine health and diagnosis. Joining in towards the contributions is also TCA, Thoroughbred Charities of America. The organization working for over three decades has provided support to the workers behind races and the retired horses. SPANA has worked to treat over 350,000 working animals worldwide. The charity has established over 50 clinics in underdeveloped communities and has vaccinated nearly 15,000 animals.
While there is negligence and mistreatment in the industry, there are also organizations working to stand against it. The mentioned charities are only a few of the existing ones. As the enthusiasts indulge in the community, it is also important to look through the tracks and the backstretch.
