Schoolkids generally do not hold back while speaking to someone or even joking around. They do not put much thought before speaking. Therefore, they may end up saying things that are considered inappropriate or even rude. When Simone Biles attended school before shifting to homeschooling, she was well aware of it.

The gymnast knew that a little too well when she was still attending school. Therefore, she did her best to keep her muscles concealed during school hours.

The reason Simone Biles hid her muscles from classmates

Biles revealed why she hesitated to show her physique at school during an interview in 2019. She understood her classmates are unforgiving towards others they deem different at times.

Moreover, the gymnast knew kids relentlessly pursue a topic once they set their mind to it. Expressing her thoughts on it, the seven-time Olympic medalist said, “You’re at that age where there are boys in the class and you go to dances and I was obviously like the strongest kid in my entire school.”

Therefore, she tried her best to hide her form at school. Echoing this concern, the athlete continued, “So I hid my muscles because the guys would stare and be like, ‘Oh my gosh, look at her muscles!’”

Biles’ first experience with the sport came during a daycare field trip in 2003. That day, the six-year-old showed promise in gymnastics, landing a back tuck successfully. Sure enough, it caught the attention of the coaches.

They decided to send the child home with a letter addressed to her parents, informing them of her abilities and her future in the sport. Thus, her journey in Gymnastics began, and within ten years, she started to reap the benefits of her hard work.

In 2013, she competed in her first World Championships, clinching gold in the all-around and floor exercise, silver in vault, and bronze in the balance beam. However, it was only the beginning of her career.
