The Fast and the Furious movie franchise is the ‘gift that keeps on giving’ for its fans. A never-ending saga of action-packed, edge-of-the-seat thrillers, the franchise has churned out nine movies to date and is all set for its tenth release in May 2023. Among its other stars, ‘Fast X’ also features Sung Kang, who has been playing the character of ‘Han Leu’ from its third installment, ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift’. Recently during the promotion of the upcoming film, the star talked about a crazy fan encounter he had while he was in a convenience store to buy some milk. What resulted was funnier than he expected.
During a trailer takeover premiere in Los Angeles, California, Kang was on the stage with TV presenter and actress Maria Menounos. Menounos asked Kang about the most memorable fan encounter. For Kang, it was when a store employee mistook him for the great martial artist-turned-Hollywood star.

Sung Kang got a good deal from the store employee who misidentified him
On stage, Maria Menounos asked Kang, “Do you have a favorite fan encounter?” Kang paused to think for a second, and then said, “Favorite fan encounter…(thinking) Yeah, you know, we were shooting Fast (referring to Fast X), and I went to the convenience store to buy some milk, and the dude at the counter looks at me and he goes, ‘Hey man, I love you (audience laughter). I love everything you do, you were great in that movie Rush Hour’ (louder roar of audience in laughter)’, and then he felt bad and he gave me the milk for free”.
The hilarious instance, more so due to the way Kang narrated it on stage, was also commendable for the way he dealt with it in the first place. However, someone like Jackie Chan, due to his insurmountable global popularity, is a name that most Americans are well aware of.
Chan starred in the film ‘Rush Hour’ with comedian and actor Chris Tucker. The sequels Rush Hour II & III followed in 2001 and 2007 respectively. The first time the two met, Tucker was unsure if Jackie Chan understood English. Despite the language barrier, the two collaborated to make the iconic film in 1998. However, Chan was still skeptical about the movie at first.
Rush Hour’s success made Jackie Chan ever so popular in the US
Rush Hour might be a successful movie that fans often consider to be a cult classic in comedy. But when the movie first came out, Chan didn’t have high hopes for it, until a phone call from Chris Tucker got him the ‘$70 million’ good news. The movie became a huge success netting nearly $244 million at the box office. In the movie, Chan and Tucker play two detectives, from Hong and LA respectively, who team up to recover the Chinese consul’s daughter.

While the store person wrongly identified Kang to be Jackie Chan, it is noteworthy that The Fast and the Furious movies did feature their fair share of other combat sports personalities over the years. From John Cena to Rhonda Rousey to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, several WWE stars have acted in different installments of the film series.
