New York Yankees Lose Out on Another Major Target as Minnesota Twins Close In

With the resumption of the trade window in baseball, silly season is truly back. And this time it seems as though signings are going through typically frenzied as most people had expected in a typically shortened window. And with the Minnesota Twins closing in on shortstop prospect Trevor Story, the New York Yankees could once again be falling prey to being slow movers in the market.

The New York Yankees seem to be taking a new direction under owner Hal Steinbrenner and manager Brian Cashman as they wait for the right move and opportunity as opposed to splurging in the market as before.

Perhaps a part of this would turn out better in the long run, but at least for now, the Yankees seem to be operating too slow to make any noticeable signings. And Trevor Story could well be the latest on the list of potential Yankees misses in the window.

Trevor Story to the Minnesota Twins?

Trevor Story has been right up there in contention for teams needing a shortstop. And with several teams across the league, including the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees looking out for a shortstop on their roster, Story could be primed for a move away from his Colorado Rockies. And reportedly, the Minnesota Twins are the latest entrant to these negotiations.

According to journalist Dan Hayes, the Twins could well be positioned to sign on the services of the shortstop soon. In what could be some sad news for Yankees fans, this would mean another prospective signing of the 2022 window lost.

On the other hand, this could well mean that the Yankees are picking to bank on their youth to come good in Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe on the cusp of Major League Baseball in the years to come.

Story too has a relatively disappointing season in 2022. With the shortstop suffering an injury to his elbow, it may have hampered his showing with the Rockies. Offensively though, Story was a top contender. Story’s .251/.329/.471 slash and 24 home runs in 595 plate appearances definitely made a mark with teams across the league. And despite turning in a fallow year in 2021, his glove-work has never presented too much doubt before.

And while the window remains open, and no moves finalized, the Yankees appear to be behind in this pursuit,. But do you think the Yankees are right to pass up on Story? Could he do well if he made his way onto the Twins?
