Following the Dallas Cowboys‘ victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons did not talk to the media. In a video released later, he explained his reasoning behind that move. Parsons was upset by the continued stream of scrutiny directed at his team. One of those critics had a different take. Enter, Stephen A. Smith.

On his eponymous show, Smith confessed Parsons is best suited to be the face of that franchise. Additionally, he maintained his issue was primarily with the Cowboys’ fanbase and not the players in their roster. Stephen A. Smith targeted quarterback Dak Prescott frequently in the past. His jubilation at, and continued predictions of, Cowboy misery, did not endear him to the fans. Smith’s response to Parsons’ outburst did not help his cause.

After playing that clip of Micah Parsons, Stephen A. Smith took his arguments apart one at a time. Smith posited whatever the Cowboys’ record during the regular season, they will inevitably lose in the playoffs. Additionally, Smith pointed out that things were slightly different for Prescott. Perhaps in a first, Smith acknowledged the quarterback had game but was running out of time in which to prove himself.

Stephen A. Smith said, “Micah Parsons, Dak Prescott can ball. We know he’s not a scrub. We know he has the potential to be elite. We know he should be out there. How the h**l you getting outplayed by Brock Purdy?”

Smith added Prescott had been a starting quarterback for all of eight years. Simultaneously, Jalen Hurts, in his second full season, took the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl. Smith noted Hurts entered the league around four years after Prescott and, in many eyes, was now better.

Stephen A. Smith then directed his questions to Parsons. Smith suggested there are a lot of other things Parsons should be upset with. According to him, this outpouring of hate was not one of them. He said, “What you mean you tired? I feel you tired. Why don’t you get tired of Dak Prescott not showing up … Why don’t you get tired of the Dallas Cowboys getting in their own way where Kellen Moore got y’all averaging 29 points a game and y’all get rid of him … Why don’t you get tired of those d**n penalties getting in y’all way?” Smith lamented the Cowboys’ inability to get to the Conference championship game.

Another go at the Cowboys’ fanbase

After sharing his outlook on Micah Parsons, Smith dropped further light on the fanbase. He noted they had a ready-made response for that inevitable playoff loss. Smith further suggested the tiresome ‘next year’ refrain opened them up to trolling from other people. However, he added, the fans’ behavior would give one the impression the Cowboys were champions.

Stephen A. Smith put it thus, “You winning games during the regular season but your fanbase walks around like y’all champions. Every single year … Y’all walk around like y’all stuff don’t stink. So, of course, if you are a person who ain’t a fan of the Cowboys, because of Cowboy Nation, you gonna troll them.” The Cowboys are 4-2 so far this season.

The Cowboys rallied, a week later, to beat the Chargers at the SoFi Stadium. In the process, they proved Smith’s prediction of further misery wrong. The season is only six games old at this point. With at least ten more games left, there is time for Stephen A. Smith’s estimation of the Cowboys to be proved accurate.
