There are countless resurgence stories in the world of sports, but none as great and inspiring as this young buck from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Peyton Robb, a 23-year-old 157 pounder from Owatonna, Minnesota fell prey to a really debilitating skin disease, which dwindled his lifestyle by a huge margin. Necrotizing fasciitis is a bacterial infection that chips away at healthy cells. Peyton Robb, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln wrestler, noticed a bruise on his shin two months ago. He was out on the mat at a national tournament in Tulsa. It changed soon into him being sick. His leg got swollen and flushed.

He went to the doctors who diagnosed it and came to the conclusion that it was Necrotizing fasciitis. That horrifying condition was threatening to cause an amputation on the wrestler’s leg. Instead, the doctors decided to take out the infected tissue and then treat the wound in a Nebraska hospital’s hyperbaric oxygen chamber. After being swallowed in the jaws of death, Robb finally made a comeback to the mat this season and crushed it. After going through multiple surgeries and endless procedures for weeks and months, Peyton Robb was able to make good progress and recover. It was painful and sometimes it was more. But he went through it and recovered. He finally made a comeback to the mat this season and crushed it. Making his statement and making the huskers proud. Huskers are dominating with their third tech fall this season.

The painstaking doctor backed procedures for the win

Robb was going through multiple surgeries. They were opening it up and then cleaning it, giving more oxygen to the tissues. It was helping tissues to heal, in an exclusive interview with nypost.com Robb said, “There was a lot of moments where I was just kind of in pain. Sometimes it was just subtle, sometimes a little bit more.”

Talking more about the procedure physician associate Roy Maurer said, “By doing surgery, getting this opened up and kind of cleaned out as well as then presenting more oxygen into both the tissue from that wound … as well as just in the bloodstream, [it] basically helps kind of suppress and help kill the bacteria in addition to antibiotics”. 

Robb gave all of his time to healing and, with the help of physicians and doctors in the case, he was able to save his leg and even more so, his career as the wrestler. He is also living proof that one needs to possess sunny optimism and mental fortitude in order to succeed, come what may in life.
