“So Thankful to Have Been Adopted”: Gymnastics Legend, Simone Biles, Uses Her Voice for a Noble Cause

American gymnast, Simone Biles, is one of the greatest athletes of the contemporary era. She is a seven-time Olympic medallist and also possesses 25 World Championships medals. For all her big achievements and success, Biles is often called the GOAT of gymnastics.

Biles was born in Columbus, Ohio. Since her biological mother was unable to care for her and her siblings, she left them in foster care. In 2003, Biles was adopted by her grandfather Ron Biles and his wife in Texas, which proved to be absolutely life-changing for Simone.

The star athlete has now joined hands with a state organization to raise awareness about the adoption month.

Although the rate of adoption is gradually increasing in the United States, there are still a large number of children who are left to wonder about parental love in foster care. November is widely known as “Adoption Awareness Month.”

In order to make this awareness reach a larger audience, the Partnerships for Children organization has roped in gymnast Simone Biles for their “The Heart Gallery of Central Texas” program. Biles is an inspiration for many, and hence is a perfect ambassador for this cause. The organization is hoping that Biles’ message will reach a vast number of people in the Texas region and beyond.

In a video shared by “Partnerships of Children” Twitter handle, Biles talked about adoption and how lucky she felt to be adopted as a kid. She said, “I’ve been so thankful to have been adopted along with my sister when I was so young.

Talking about what her parents’ support means to her Biles said, “I feel so fortunate to have a loving family who not only made my health and safety number one but also allowed me to thrive, nurturing my interests in supporting my endeavors in and out of the gym.” 

A glimpse of the adoption rate in the USA

According to the Lifelong Adoptions report, in the US, more than 50,000 children are adopted through foster care every year. Some other reports suggest that the adoption rate has been gradually increasing over the last few years.

Foster care contributes to around 37% of the adoption system in the country. With a dip in adoption due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the numbers are on a rise again.
