Kimberley Woods’ incredible journey of overcoming adversity

Kimberley Woods embodies resilience in the face of adversity, a quality she’s honed through a lifetime of challenges. Gifted athletically, she gravitated towards canoeing, influenced by familial ties to the sport. Inspired by her aunt’s silver medal at the junior worlds, Woods embarked on her own journey, navigating the waters with determination and zeal from a tender age. Yet, even as she soared in her athletic pursuits, she endured relentless bullying, grappling with insecurities while forging ahead with unwavering resolve.

During her school years, Woods faced relentless bullying about her physique, often feeling self-conscious and tearful on her bus rides home. Despite her resilience, the constant harassment took a toll, leaving her to cope alone as she couldn’t confide in her busy family. This isolation led her to internalize her pain, resorting to self-harm as a means of coping when faced with adversity, highlighting her struggle to express and deal with emotional distress.

Masking her inner turmoil with a veneer of resilience, Kimberley Woods finally found the courage to confront her struggles thanks to the compassionate guidance of her coach, Craig Morris.
