Michael Phelps is arguably the best swimmer to take part in the Olympic games. Phelps dedicated countless hours to become the best swimmer he could be. While all that effort paid off in the pool, the Olympic gold medalist’s personal life took a hit. However, when it came to planning his own wedding, Phelps didn’t abandon his partner completely. In fact, Michael surprised his bride-to-be with some of his actions.
The Olympic legend married former Miss California, Nicole Johnson. The pair dated for eight years before getting married in 2016. Nicole explained everything in detail when she sat down for an interview with Cosmopolitan.

Michael Phelps’ involvement in his wedding with Nicole Johnson
In a 2016 interview with Cosmopolitan, Nicole Johnson talked about Michael’s involvement in planning their wedding. The Interviewer asked Nicole, “How are you splitting the wedding planning duties?”. Nicole replied, “I show him pictures and I ask what he thinks and he’ll either brush it off, which means he doesn’t really care, or he’ll give me his opinion.” She also clarified that Phelps, “Doesn’t need to partake in the tiny, minuscule decisions.”

However, Johnson further explained, “I also know him well enough to know that he does want to be involved.” Nicole said that, among other things, Michael helped in choosing the wedding cake and flowers. The interviewer also asked Johnson if Micheal surprised her with something he cared about. Nicole answered, “I didn’t think he would care about our flowers.”

During the interview, Phelps’ better half also revealed a detail about how much he sacrificed during the competition. Nicole said, “I took on everything, obviously, because he had to focus on going to the games.” Nicole revealed Michael Phelps’ dedication to the sport. When the time to compete came, Phelps was ready to put everything else on hold.

Michael Phelps competed in the Olympics for the last time in 2016. At Rio Olympics 2016, Phelps won five gold medals and one silver medal. At 31, Phelps set an Olympic record in the 4x 100m medley. Phelps retired from the sport with a record-breaking 23 Olympic golds and 28 Olympic medals in total.
Johnson and Phelps got married in Mexico
Michael Phelps and Nicole Johnson married each other on June 13, 2016. The pair later traveled to Mexico on October 29 for a second wedding. They invited only 50 of their closest family and friends. The wedding may have been small, but it was grand.

Michael Phelps won 28 Olympic medals throughout his career. Phelps always prioritized training over everything else.
