An elite American runner with a long list of accolades. Yep, that exemplifies Sara Hall in a nutshell. Since the 2004 US Olympic trials, Sara Hall has been a mainstay at each event, spanning from the 1500m to the marathon. Even at the 2021 Olympic trials, she ended up 6th among 10,000 marathon runners, propelling her into the quest for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

When she entered 2022 with unwavering determination, it was evident from her records and perseverance that she was aiming for something big. But little did she know, fate had other plans in store for her that would shatter her illustrious athletic career. Though most injuries and diseases in the sporting world are unwanted guests, in Hall’s case, her backdrop is something she invited on her own. In February, she got injured after a fall that eventually resulted in bruising her bones, followed by an IT band injury.

Though common among runners and cyclists, IT Band syndrome is something she developed day by day. However, when she recognized the injury, she immediately took a break and spent two straight months overcoming it. But even so, overcoming her injury was not her only MO.

Interestingly, Sara Hall was preparing to embark on the tracks of the NYC Marathon. But once again, bad luck struck as she withdrew from a series of races, including the Houston Half Marathon and the Boston Marathon, fearing the worsening of her injury. Finally, after months of rehab, Hall was ready to take on her favorite thing: getting back on track.

Hall, at 40, took her first step onto the Olympic Marathon trials to once again begin working toward her long-term goal. Though she finished the marathon in 5th place, clocking an American masters marathon record, she was not able to secure an Olympic berth this year. Despite this setback, she decided to embark on the Boston Marathon.
