Josh Kerr Shatters 9-Year Record to Beat American Record Holder in New York

One of the most awaited indoor track and field events, the Millrose Games 2024, has commenced and is leaving some of the most wonderful performances on its trail. One of the events that captivated the attention of every track and field enthusiast is Josh Kerr’s performance at the 2 Mile. He proved his dominance by trouncing the American world record holder and smashing a 9-year-old world record.

This 1500m world champion did not leave his ground and gave an extremely tough competition to the American record holder and nabbed first place with a brilliant time of 8:00.67. He stunned everyone by removing around 4 seconds from the previous world record in the 2-mile event.

The Scottish middle-distance runner Josh Kerr gave a spectacular performance at the 2 miles at the Armory in the Millrose Games. This event was a terrific showdown between Kerr and the 5000-meter American record holder Grant Fisher. Kerr cruised towards the finish line and ended up breaking a 9-year-old record created by Mo Farah. This British long-distance runner made a world record of 8:0.40 in 2015.

Grant Fisher achieved the second position and clocked a time of 8:03.62. With this, he also grabbed the American world record by breaking Galen Rupp’s American record of 8:07.41. This event was full of incredible wins and records.

However, this is not the first time Josh Kerr has astonished people with his performance. He gave a stunning performance at the World Championships in Budapest as well. He gracefully nabbed the title of world champion and made all the track enthusiasts gaze at him in awe.

The 1500 world championship win of the Scottish athlete

On the 23rd of August in 2023, Josh Kerr took the title of World Champion in 2023. In this, he defeated one of his archrivals, Jakob Ingebrigtsen. He took everyone by surprise by beating the favorite athlete of the 1500m and stood atop the podium with a world lead time of 3:29.38.

Jakob secured the second position and expressed, “I’m of course disappointed.” He further added, “All credit to Kerr, he did a great race.” Kerr on the other hand said, “It’s been a long time coming.” He further added, “It’s quite an overwhelming experience.”
