Pan American Championship: USA’s Hayden Tuma Defeats Rival on His Home Soil To Clinch Gold

What could be better than defeating a wrestler in their home ground and clinching the ultimate victory? Fans witnessed something like this at the Gecro-Roman wrestling event of the 2024 Pan-American Championships. An American Greco-Roman wrestler who is the 2016 US national champion, clenched gold defeating his Mexican opponent. The event took place on Wednesday in Acapulco, Mexico.

The tournament involved six Olympic weight categories, which will directly impact the wrestlers’ record and position for the upcoming Pan-Am Olympic Games Qualifier, slated to take place a week later at the same location. Among all the wrestlers, the title of standing out has to be under the name Hayden Tuma.

Gold from foreign soil at the Pan American Championship

Not only did Hayden Tuma turn out to be a stellar performer, but he also clinched gold at the competition. His victorious news came out on the official Twitter page of USA Wrestling with the caption, “GR 63 kg, Hayden Tuma dec. Hector Sanchez Zapata (Mexico), 4-0. Tuma wins gold at the Pan-American Championships!”

In the thrilling showdown, Tuma demonstrated his dominance over Hector Sanchez Zapata, who hails from Mexico. With an exceptional skill set, Tuma scored 4-0 and grabbed a gold medal at the championship. In Wednesday’s match, Tuma initially planned to compete at 60kg this season. But in the end, he was back to his familiar territory, where he once coveted victory under the 63kg bracket. This performance is his third in the Pan Am championships.

Hayden Tuma’s awesome threesome

Tuma’s journey started in 2017 at the Pan-Am Championships, where he competed in the 66kg category. In 2022 he again competed in the event in the 67kg category. But on both occasions, he grabbed the seventh position. However, this time, he converted it to the golden glory. His position is quite revered in the National wrestling scenario as well.

Hayden Tuma is a three-time national champion. The Pan Am event started at 10:00 am and got the audience hooked on the screen as the wrestlers delivered some credible performances.
