

On the 8th of September, 2022 an era came to an end after Queen Elizabeth II of England breathed her last at the age of 96. The world came together to mourn the demise of the longest-ruling monarch of the modern world. And, the sporting world was not far behind. The Queen had a fond connection with sports with a legacy in equestrian racing.
But, that was not all; she also had an undying love for soccer and cricket. To commemorate her legacy, soccer megastar David Beckham recently posted on his social media.

Beckham had shared the stage with her Majesty the Queen on quite a few occasions, the recent being in 2018. In 2018 Beckham was invited with other prominent sports figures to the Royal Palace for the Young Leaders Programme. Other than this too, the two heavyweights have been seen interacting with each other at events. So, no surprise, Beckham would come forth to put a statement.

Beckham took to his official Instagram handle to speak up on the occasion. He posted three black and white images of the late Queen and wrote a hefty paragraph. He reminisced, “Until her last days, she served her country with dignity and grace” He ended the post wishing the royal family to stay strong and prayed on this dark occasion. The soccer champ said, “I’m truly saddened…” His post garnered a lot of fans who shared the same sentiments. As a result, the post got over 937,750 likes in 20 hours.

The Beckham family has strong ties to Buckingham Palace. David himself has been a close associate of Charles III’s eldest son, William. Hence, he was also there during William’s royal wedding in 2011. Once talking about this relationship, Beckham said “It’s a very normal relationship.” He also added that the family was quite easy to become friends with.

The Queen’s interest in sports
Queen Elizabeth II’s life has been captured countless times. And, in all of the moments captured, her love for sporting culture has been a constant. She was known to be quite a motivator for the athletes as she would send them personal messages following important events. Even one of her last public appearances was at a horse race.

She even made history in 2012 by accompanying actor Daniel Craig to the Olympics. Daniel was in his “James Bond” avatar and this camera appearance became a big thing that season.
