

When USWNT (U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team) won the year-long legal battle for equal pay, it was a historic moment for the entire world. However, it was not an individual victory. It was the result of tireless efforts put forth by each and every member of the team. Though now that the victory has been achieved, some of the members are feeling left out and FIFA player of the year Carli Lloyd is one of them.

In February this year, the United States women’s national team won the historic verdict against the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) for a total of $24 million. Though this change didn’t occur in one day, it took years and years of effort. In fact, by the time the verdict was announced, most of the players involved had taken retirement from international soccer.
Carli Lloyd is not happy
As Time Magazine released its list of 100 most influential people of 2022, Tennis legend Billie Jean King honored American female soccer legends Megan Rapinoe, Becky Sauerbrunn, and Alex Morgan. In quote posted by Time’s official Twitter handle, Billie said, “These women have shown up and spoken up. When they were not recognized for their accomplishments, and not paid equally, they vowed to drag soccer to the right side of history.”

Though the list left out one important name, Carli Lloyd and the four times Olympian didn’t seem happy about it. She retweeted the post with the caption, “You may have missed a few other players and the rest of the team (thinking emoji).”

Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2022
Along with Megan Rapinoe, Becky Sauerbrunn, and Alex Morgan, Billie Jean King also mentioned the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team for this remarkable achievement. Though there was no specific mention of Carli Lloyd in the post. Furthermore, Billie said, “It was the biggest win of their lives. And something tells me they are not done yet.”

Clearly, the members of USWNT have come a long way. However, what they have achieved on and off the field will be remembered forever as a true inspiration in the world of sports.
