VAR Comes Into Play During Manchester United-Arsenal Match

Arsenal managed to sneak a draw against Manchester United, with the final score reading 1-1. However, once again, the Video Assisted Referee (VAR) was the talk of the town. The VAR decision went against Arsenal when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appeared to score the winner.

The Red Devils grabbed an early lead when Scott McTominay’s strike was deflected and Bernd Leno was unable to get to it in time. The break-through came moments after David De Gea pulled off a double save to deny the Gunners.

However, Arsenal pulled one back, courtesy Aubameyang, though it went straight to VAR before being given the green light. Now, Arsenal find themselves 4th on the Premier League table, with United on the edge of the top 10.

Arsenal have had one win, three draws and a loss in their last five matches. On the other hand, Manchester United has one win, two losses and two draws in their last five matches. This is United’s worst start in the span of seven games in nearly three decades, but the good news is Arsenal are not exactly title contenders yet, being 9 point behind league leaders Liverpool.

“I thought how many times have we been 1-0 up and not got the second goal?” admitted a disappointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian manager was gutted at being denied a penalty when Sead Kolasinac appeared to handle the ball just before Arsenal’s goal.

The game also appeared to be very hot-headed as a number of yellow cards were dished out. Manchester United actually amassed four yellow cards, and it was a miracle that nobody was sent off.

Prior to the match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made three changes from the 2-0 defeat by West Ham. Axel Tuanzebe, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba came in for, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata. Wan-Bissaka was missing from the squad altogether, while the other two were benched.

Unai Emery made two changes for Arsenal from their 3-2 win over Aston Villa. Calum Chambers and Lucas Torreira replaced Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Dani Ceballos. Bukayo Saka became the youngest Arsenal player to start this fixture in Premier League history at 18 years and 25 days old.
