Gary Vaynerchuck is probably one of the most influential entrepreneurs in the world. Not only does he have a huge fan following across multiple social media platforms, but is also the author of multiple best-selling books. People know him for his brash, unabashed take on business and life. He recently announced the launch of his latest venture, VaynerGaming where he signed 2019 Fortnite World Cup winner, Bugha, as his first client.
Gary is known for his famous goal to be the owner of the New York Jets someday. He has mentioned this on multiple occasions and hence the venture into sports. But the esports industry is something that caught his eye too. And why wouldn’t it? As of today, the esports industry stands at $1.1 billion and is expected to grow by 42% by 2023. The current pandemic makes it difficult to follow any kind of traditional sport but esports has been the top entertainer in these testing times.
In a comment Gary Said “I have been quietly paying attention to the gaming industry for over a decade, building relationships and following the trends. One of the most exciting things about it, for me, is the gamers themselves. And when I look at the culture, the interest in the sector from other athletes, artists, celebrities – it is enormous. This is a very significant expansion for VaynerSports,”
Gary is not the only one to be attracted by the growth of esports. A lot of celebrities have shown their interest in this. David Beckham recently announced his latest venture, the Guild Esports based out of the UK. Celebrities like Michael Jordon, Drake and Steph Curry have also invested in gaming ventures.
Gaming industry veteran Darren Glover has also joined and will work closely with VaynerSports CEO AJ Vaynerchuck. Darren commented on this partnership saying,
“While lucrative, the gaming industry is still the wild wild west and unlike other sports, relevancy is not necessarily tied strictly to performance or wins and losses. I don’t believe anyone has a better ‘secret sauce’ than what Gary and the Vayner ecosystem does for brands, talent, and professional athletes. I’m extremely excited to implement that strategy on behalf of esports athletes, gaming content creators, and VaynerSports athletes as we launch a first-of-its-kind agency division.”
This venture comes at a time when the world is seeing a meteoric rise in the popularity of esports across the globe. With Bugha on-board, Vayner Gaming is definitely on the right track.
