A 74-year-old man died after hitting a deer with his bike. The incident happened around 6.10 pm. The officials found out that the man died on the spot. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the deceased man is a resident of Moberly and his name is Ronald L. Wilson.

Wilson was returning from his work when he met with the accident. The crash happened in the evening, with the visibility being very much less. The deer came in front of the bike and Wilson could not manage to avoid it.

Accidents involving deer are a common occurrence now. After the accident, they took Wilson to the hospital where the doctors announced him dead. However, there were no other casualties involved in the incident. The officials are investigating the matter and looking for other angles as well. Wilson hit a deer, which was already on the road, and lost control of his bike. The accident happened near the east of College Mound.

The visibility during the night is generally very low and considering Wilson’s age and reflex, it would have been tough to control. Moreover, in cases like these, it’s impossible to get out of the way. Firstly, the riders drive at a good speed because of the highway. Secondly, deers are pretty big and tough to get past. Forests surround all these highways and these deers run back and forth between them. The drivers have practically zero reaction time to react to any sort of situations.

Preventive measures need to be taken

The riders who travel mostly through this route, their safety should be top priority. Incidents like these have become a common phenomenon. A 74-year-old man died without any fault of his. The local administration should find a measure to stop these animals coming into the street like this. They should barricade the facilities and make sure that the height is sufficient. These animals can run into big trucks as well, which will be far more dangerous. To avoid such collisions, it is important to take preventive measures.

We should take another measure, which is to improve the lighting in the areas where such accidents happen. However, we cannot eliminate accidents 100 percent, still measures need to be taken to stop them.
