An incident where a campervan driver collided with a group of cyclists has taken the internet by storm. The video uploaded on the internet clearly shows the entire incident that took place. The cyclists were seen driving on the edge of Lake Mary Road. After a while, the campervan driver slammed into one of the riders, resulting in the rest of the riders falling down.

After the entire incident went viral, people have come up with a lot of responses. The injuries sustained by the riders were significantly on a higher side. One of the riders sustained a broken collarbone and had to undergo surgery after being hit first. He also suffered a concussion.  The other two riders suffered a possible tendon damage and a broken knee cap. The onlookers were also horrified at the incident and were struggling to cope up with the tragedy.

The aftermath

After the cyclists were down and out, the local people ran to help them. Most of the people initially did not know what to do and were trying to figure out what needs to be done. In the beginning, their chief priority was to assist the riders rather than reprimand the driver.

One of the riders involved in the crash, Kyle Hornbeck, a local bike shop owner and member of the Pay-N-Take racing team, expressed that he has struggled to process the collision and its aftermath.

“I bounce back and forth between trying to make sense of it, put myself in everyone’s shoes and just trying to operate from a place of how can I be helpful,” he said.

Internet has reacted wildly to this incident of supreme recklessness by the driver.

This user pointed out to the helmet which seemed futile in this scenario.

This user demanded the driver to be banned and be sued for compensation while hoping that the cyclists recover soon.

This user checked to see if the driver has been charged yet.

This was horrible according to a user.

 Who is held responsible?

The entire internet fraternity has a mixed opinion regarding the driver. Many feel that they should ban him from driving. While others feel he should have been fined a hefty sum. After watching the video, it was evident that the cyclists were riding in their own lane. We cannot blame the cyclists for leaving their lane and getting into the driver’s lane. Rather, the driver came into their lane and ran them over. Whether the driver did that on purpose or it was a complete accident needs to be investigated. The injured cyclists will have to wait for a considerable period before they return to action.
