Renowned Cyclist Does a ‘Last Dance’ in the Revered White Jersey as He Wins in a Historic Race on Sunday

It is often quite hard to say goodbye to the one thing that you love to do in your life. However, sometimes we have to say the toughest goodbyes as the end of one thing marks the beginning of another. The romantic story between Tadej Pogačar and the Tour De France white jersey is also a similar one. 

After giving the competition his heart and soul and even dominating it thoroughly, Pogačar has finally bid adieu to the tourney and a very special jersey. However, he finished off his career with a scintillating victory and tears in his eyes.

The recently concluded Saitama Criterium witnessed history. After triumphing in the Tour De France twice, in 2020 and 2021, Tadej Pogačar conquered the criterium too. Pogačar showed glimpses of his immense talent as he whizzed past other challengers on the 59.5 km stretch. The 25-year-old cyclist defeated the likes of Peter Sagan and Sepp Kuss to emerge triumphant. 

However, amidst all the confetti, just like the setting sun, an era of Pogačar’s career also went down. This was the last time we could catch a glimpse of the vibrant Slovenian on the Saitama Criterium. This would also be the last we get to see the iconic white jersey of Pogačar.

The Slovenian competed wearing the white jersey that he won at Tour De France. The jersey was given to the Best Young Rider of the tournament, which the 25-year-old won. Speaking about the same, Pogačar got nostalgic as he commented,It was a great start to my career with the white jersey, but it’s time to say goodbye also.”

Pogačar’s short but full career at a glance

Tadej Pogačar has had an ornamented career. Apart from his Tour wins, Pogačar has been victorious in the criterium four times, which is a record. This fact was pointed out by his manager, Alex Carera as he said that Andy Schleck and Jan Ullrich were the only ones to win it thrice.

In the current year, Pogačar has a flurry of winnings to show for. He won the Fleche Wallonne, Amstel Gold Race, Tour of Flanders, Paris Nice, and Vuelta a Andalusia.

Apart from these, the 25-year-old also grabbed a couple of National Championships along with a victory at II Lombardia. Thus, we can truly say that Tadej Pogačar’s career has indeed come full circle.
