57-Year-Old Cyclist from Massachusetts Loses Life in Fatal UPS Truck Collision

In a heart-wrenching incident, a 57-year-old cyclist from Massachusetts lost his life after a fatal collision with a UPS truck. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office confirmed the devastating accident. The crash occurred at the intersection of Watertown and Bridge Streets in Newton shortly before 5:25 p.m. on Monday.

Interestingly, the UPS truck driver was also another 57 year old based out of Newton, Massachusetts. Authorities have opened an investigation to determine what happened, and to ensure proper closure for the family of the deceased.

The accident unfolded as the UPS truck and the bicyclist converged at the busy junction. The cyclist, a resident of Newton, was riding westward on Watertown Street. Curiously, another 57-year-old Newton resident was driving the UPS truck. It was heading east before attempting a left turn onto Bridge Street.

Tragically, the collision resulted in severe injuries to the cyclist. He was then transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for medical attention. However, he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the local community. Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller expressed her deep condolences. She also conveyed her thoughts and prayers to the grieving family and friends of the cyclist. “This news is deeply upsetting. At this difficult time, I am thinking first and foremost of the family and friends of the cyclist. I know people all across Newton will hold them in their thoughts,” she said in a statement.
