At the remarkably young age of seven, Frankie McMillan’s awe-inspiring achievement has captured the hearts and admiration of many. He’s now believed to be the youngest Briton ever to conquer Greece’s formidable Mount Olympus.

Hailing from West Cumbria, this young adventurer embarked on a challenging three-day expedition, with his ever-supportive mother Basia by his side. But Frankie’s accomplishment goes beyond personal triumph; it’s a testament to his indomitable spirit and carries a philanthropic purpose.

Frankie managed to raise an impressive £2,300 for the Wasdale Mountain Rescue, showcasing his determination to make a positive impact. Basia affectionately refers to Frankie as a “little man” with boundless courage. She shares in the collective amazement of all those who witnessed his remarkable ascent. A feat of extraordinary proportions for someone so young.

Frankie’s passion for mountaineering was ignited at the astonishingly young age of three, nurtured by his mother, an accomplished mountain leader. Their early expeditions, including scaling Cat Bells near Keswick, ignited Frankie’s enthusiasm for conquering peaks.

Frankie’s resolute determination played a pivotal role in securing the necessary authorization for his ambitious ascent of Mount Olympus. Their journey commenced near their residence in Gosforth on a sunny Friday morning.

A beautiful Journey

Despite grappling with sweltering temperatures of approximately 30 degrees Celsius, they triumphantly reached the summit. It was a splendid Saturday morning and descended victoriously by Sunday. The Hellenic Mountain Guides Association acknowledged their extraordinary accomplishment, believing that Frankie could be the youngest Briton to conquer this formidable mountain.

The severe heat posed a considerable challenge, necessitating meticulous hydration, but Frankie and Basia remained steadfast. The spirited young adventurer found the scramble to the summit to be the most enjoyable part of the entire expedition.

Even now, Frankie’s mother admits that they are still processing their remarkable achievement. At the summit, only a small group of observers bore witness to Frankie’s extraordinary feat. Amid the crowd’s astonishment at seeing young Frankie reach the peak, his mother’s overwhelming pride was unmistakable.

While Frankie temporarily puts his adventures on hold to return to school, he already has his sights set on conquering other challenging peaks. He dreams of embarking on a demanding expedition in Peru during the upcoming October half-term. Frankie, displaying no signs of slowing down, aspires to one day conquer the towering Mount Everest, which stands at an imposing elevation of 29,000 feet (8,800 meters).
