In the heart of Tulsa, a remarkable hockey team has emerged with a powerful mission. The goal is to raise funds and hope for families battling childhood cancer. “Gold as Ice,” a team comprised of 13 dedicated players, recently held their first fundraising event.

Held at the Oilers Ice Center, this event proved that a sport can be a beacon of hope. Team captain Jessica Hopwood passionately shared, “We have 15 kids here in Tulsa who are either battling cancer, in remission or cancer survivors. We play for them.”

The center buzzed with excitement as players, donning jerseys bearing the names of the children they represent, took to the ice. Nine-year-old Linox Amerine, who has been battling leukemia, was honored to drop the puck to kick off the event. She said, “It was exciting meeting my hockey player.”

Summer Osborn, Linox’s mother, emphasized the significance of such events for children facing critical illnesses. “It’s very exciting to have something to look forward to. Something to get dressed up for when you’re schooling at home, and you can’t see your friends,” she expressed. The community’s support, from donations to raffle tickets, has been a lifeline for these families.
