The Premier League transfer window saw some record signings with plenty of spice and drama! Former Newcastle striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic, was at the center of the most recent controversy.

The 28-year-old striker had a stellar season with Fulham, scoring 14 goals for them, but his campaign was tainted after a scuffle with the match referee in a match during the FA Cup. Mitrovic faced an eight-game ban for his improper conduct on the field. The striker informed his relatives of the controversial decision after the club set his transfer fee at £52 million. It is said that the club set a fee for the striker in order to negate a transfer move to the Saudi Arabian league or earn greater profit.

The Saudi club, Al Hilal, had offered him a contract almost worth three times of his current one, with £120,000 as per week wage and the high transfer fee move has irked Mitrovic. The striker called the move disgusting and refused to join the club for its pre season camp in North America. Rumors suggest that Mitrovic’s agents have been involved in conversations with Fulham’s owner to lower his transfer fee for a deal with the Saudi club.

2023 Premier League’s transfer window has been a rollercoaster

Mitrovic eventually did take the flight and join in the camp in North America, but tensions between the two parties continue to exist. His future at the club is very doubtful, and whether he will start in their opening game against Everton. The coming few weeks promise much drama as the transfer window reaches its fag end.

This year’s transfer window has been historic in more than one way. Arsenal made record signings in former Chelsea striker, Kai Havertz and English prodigy and mid-fielder, Declan Rice, a former West Ham United player and Manchester United let go of their club legend, David de Gea and signed André Onana for £51m and in a surprising move, gave their No.7 to new signee, Mason Mount.
